Nite Owl

The short story we read by Ernest Hemingway, called A Clean, Well Lighted place was a very in the moment kind of story. The story only told about one nite and the conflicts that had happened amongst the bar tenders and this old deaf man. Although the man was deaf he still could talk and asked for what he wanted. I found it very intresting that because of the fact that he was deaf he became a nite owl.

It seems to me that in many different cirrcumstances people adjust to their enviroment according to either there comfort level or their work. At first i just thought that these kind of people just had very bad insomia and couldn't fall asleep, but that doesnt seem to be the case. Like the deaf man my mother is a nite owl. Staying up till 4 in the morining then sleeping until 3 in the after noon. I never really understood it until I look at it from a different perspective. The deaf man new that in the day people are all around, and being unable to hear he finds their to be no point in being around people that he cant communicate with. By Staying awake at nite, he only sees a very small number of people making it easier to communicate with them. Although by staying in his comfort zone I fear it turned him into a lonely drunk just waiting for his time to go.
